The Gijón Sur programme includes Júlia ist (Elena Martín), Cartas de la guerra (Ivo M. Ferreira), El jardín de Jeannette (Stéphane Brizé), Zoran, mi sobrino tonto (Matteo Oleotto) y La idea de un lago (Milagros Mumenthaler)
The O.V.S. series, organizad by DIVERTIA and Gijón/Xixón International Film Festival, will finish their 2017 programme with some of the most outstanding films of the season, giving special attention to those that are the farthest away from the normal commercial circuit, titles from independent cinema and author cinema. The O.V.S. autumn programme will take place in the months of October and November as the perfect preface for the 55th edition of Gijón/Xixón International Film Festival, which will take place from November 17th to the 25th.

The series will start on October 7th with the projection of El jardín de Jeannette, directed by the France’s Stéphane Brizé, an adaptation of the 19th century novel Una vida, written by Guy de Maupassant, which acquired the FIPRESCI award at the 2016 Venice Film Festival. Zoran, mi sobrino tonto was also presented in Venice, and will arrive in Gijón Sur on October 14th. The Italian event saw this film, signed by the transalpine filmmaker Matteo Oleotto, be awarded the Audience Award thanks to its funny look about the daily problems of a small Friuli village. One week alter, on October 21st, the local audience will have the chance to watch La idea de un lago, a film directed by the Argentine Milagros Mumenthaler, which was acclaimed by the critics and the public during its projection in the festivals of Locarno and San Sebastián.

Ocotber’s programming will close with Cartas de la Guerra, a Portuguese film directed by Ivo M. Ferreira, taking place in the country’s colonial wars in Angola. To wrap up the series in November, the Spanish Júlia ist, debut feature from the young filmmaker Elena Martín, who was the winner of the ZonaZine section at Málaga Film Festival by obtaining the Biznagas de Plata for best film and best directon.

All of these works will be available, like in other editions, at the CMI Gijón Sur for 4€. Spectators will be able to acquire their passes through the Gijón/Xixón International Film Festival website, at the Jovellanos’ theatre ticket office, or the same day of the event at the CMI.
